Large antique Japanese lacquered isho-dansu, or clothing chest, dating to the Meiji-Period (c.1890). This tansu hails from Japan's Sado Island, a region known for fine lacquered furniture and distinctive hardware. It measures 44 1/2 inches wide by 17 inches deep, by 45 inches tall when in traditional stacked configuration. The two sections may also be used independently, each approximately 22 1/2 inches tall.

Japanese antique mizuya dansu, sideboard style kitchen tansu chest. Meiji-Period (c.1900); good to excellent condition. Framing crafted from finely grained Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) with traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Panels of Sugi (Japanese Cedar). Thoroughly cleaned and restored; painstakingly hand waxed to bring out the lustrous golden patina.

Two-section traditional tansu, fashioned primarily from Kiri, or Paulownia wood, prized among Japanese craftsmen for its lightweight strength and durability.
