Beautiful antique Japanese hibachi, a coal burning brazier used traditionally as a hand or room warmer. Handmade porcelain, with depictions of flowering cherry, or sakura, in vivid blue and white glaze, highlighted with shades of pink and reddish brown. Taisho-Period (c.1920), excellent condition. Approximately 16 inches in diameter, 11 inches tall, and 25 pounds.

Antique kiri wood tabako-bon, a traditional Japanese smoking set. Similar to a small hibachi, this quaint little item is crafted from prized kiri, or paulownia, wood, and features images of butterflies and flowers in gold "kin makie" lacquer. It has two copper inserts, and is in very good original condition. Antique Japanese Bizen sake tokuri, or rice wine decanter with wood stopper, Meiji-Period (c.1900). Bizen ceramics, or yaki, is unglazed, and has a distinctive bronzed patina that results naturally from floating ash in the wood-fired kilns, which have operated continuously for more than four centuries. Small vintage Japanese sudare, traditional bamboo and silk window shade. Sudare are commonly used from spring to autumn to shade sunlight while allowing free flow of air, and are easily rolled up and held with decorative loops. They are crafted from thin bamboo slats, with stitched silk borders. Taisho-Period (c.1920). Poor to fair condition; bamboo slats show usual light wear and tear, silk border is badly frayed in many places, and likely needs to be replaced. Antique Japanese koro, or incense burner, fashioned in likeness of a shi shi, or foo dog. Meiji-Period (c.1900), Bizen earthenware. The Seto area is renowned for its many kilns, producing fine earthenware, or yaki. The tsubo dates to the late Meiji-Period (c.1910), and is in excellent condition.
